Ah, May...
May is the sweetest month... Baltimore Orioles hanging from the branches of the tallest trees, serenading us with a song so liquid and pure that it makes you want to close your eyes, to hear it better... but then you'd miss the rhododendrons and azaleas in full bloom.

I came by here to check on your Azaeleas, and I wasn't disappointed. Mine are ready to open, I'm so glad the freeze missed them.
I heard the Orioles for the 1st time over the weekend. I am listening for the Rose Breasted Grosbeaks, any sightings yet?
We've got lots of both orioles and grosbeaks. I went on a field trip with a conservation organization to look at restoration techniques in oak woodlands, and visited a private 240 acre preserve in Henry County west of Mt. Pleasant. We walked in their house, and looked out the window at the birdfeeder; there were at least half a dozen male grosbeaks at once, with more coming in. also saw a summer tanager, and tons of warblers... what a place. Gives you some hope for bird habitat preservation.
