Fall Weeding
I've always been irked by garden writers who mention that this or that cool plant has become a pest by seeding all over their garden. I was just thinking about that today out in the garden, when I was thinning out a lot of the little hellebore seedlings that are popping up this fall.

I don't know a thing about hellebores, other than they are really hard to divide. Are they shade plants?
Mmm. Hellebore seedlings. Don't you have some local group you can donate those to? A Master Gardener's class or something?
Hellebores are a tad expensive around here, if the same is true for you, somebody there should love a few freebies...

Jenn... I dunno; they take forever to grow to blooming size (which is why they are so expensive). This isn't a real hot spot for horticulture around here; I think I'd get mostly blank looks if I offered tiny hellebore seedlings. Potting them up and messing around with them is just more work than I need right now.

I live in Iowa City. I think that Project Green would be interested in seedlings. I put about twenty in little pots this spring and just sunk the pots in the ground. I think they will be big enough that people would buy them next year.
I think they get to blooming size in three years. I will tell you for certain in two years.
