Turtles, Turtles, Turtles
On a gray, windswept day, when the gloom under the dense trees in our garden is almost palpable, the unseasonably cheerful rasberry-pink flowers of the Japanese turtlehead (Chelonopsis yagiharana) are a delight. This is a short, dense clumper (almost a groundcover), and as carefree as can be. I have this planted in a bed with hostas and hellebores, so its bright flowers show up nicely. It will bloom until frost cuts it down, some starry October night.

Kathy... I got it at Asiatica, but I see it offered at other nurseries now... maybe Lazy S, and a couple of others. It's a very nice little plant; not spectacular, but this time of year, it's neat.
