Christmas In March
Can there be anything finer than, on a cold, windy day in mid-March, being out in the toasty greenhouse, unpacking the first spring shipment of new plants for the garden? The first order always comes from Arrowhead Alpines in Fowlerville, Michigan. Bob and Brigitta put out a catalogue that is so jam-packed with treasures that the first time I saw it, it gave me the shivers, and I could only read a few pages at a time. Now, many years (and dozens of boxes) later, I can sit down and look through the whole thing at one sitting without hyperventilating at all, but it still is my favorite catalogue, and the source for many of the shade perennials that now grow in our woods, and are pictured on this blog. Of course, as soon as I had the plants all unpacked, I started thinking I should have ordered more primroses... but then I think the same thing EVERY year!

I live twenty minutes away from that place, and I am afraid to visit.
Too much good stuff, a limited budget, and very little impulse control is a bad combination.
Drooling over your primroses, tho. Sigh.

Jenn... if I lived 20 minutes from A.A., I'd be happy and broke.
Tom... it is the BEST time of year.
