Neither Winter nor Spring

On a somewhat raw and windy day, I was out in the garden turning over leaves in order to look at emerging foliage, an activity somewhat akin to peeking into wrapped presents, for I'm getting a sneak preview of what spring will bring, but it makes the wait even harder. I was quite surprised, considering the outlandishly cold December we just suffered through, to see thousands of little springtails jumping up and down as I turned over the leaves. It was sort of like opening the lid to a popcorn popper, on a small scale. Everywhere there were precious little plant gems nestled in the forest floor leaf litter, with crisp foliage encompassing a wide spectrum of shades of green. It will be a wonderful spring! Posted by Picasa

You are talking about spring so soon! We've got another 10 weeks or so of freeze, sleet and misery.

Although, I too, should go take a peep at the primulas. I'm hoping for hellabore blooms this year, as well... *fingers crossed*
