Deer Mystery
As our second snow storm in the last few days cranks up, I ponder two things: why we bought a house with a long, uphill driveway, and what has happened to the deer. We normally have quite a herd that calls our woods home, but most of them have just disappeared... alien abductions crossed my mind, but seems unlikely. My best guess is that our drought all summer pretty much wiped out all the forest floor greenery, so that the deer migrated to be near the cornfields over the hill. You'd think at least they could drop us a postcard to let us know they're o.k.

Its the opposite for me, during the summer we only have a buck living in our woods (he's a biggun too!) In the winter the does show up. There are 5 total in my little patch of wood now and I'm wondering how the heck they can all fit in there!
We usually have an influx when deer hunting season starts; last year we also had a really nice buck, but not this year. He's probably gracing somebody's den.
