Snickers

Though a year ago, we still remember the day,
when Snickers first stole both our hearts away.
She was the tiniest kitten at the animal shelter;
we knew she was ours the moment we held her.
All eyes, paws, and tail, and with soft, dark fur,
she licked both our hands, and started to purr.
As she grew, she was a blur of energy and fun,
never sitting or walking, when she could run.
There were woods to explore, and trees to climb;
and I now think she knew there was so little time.
For on Sunday, she was sleepy, and began to sneeze.
By Monday she couldn't breathe and began to wheeze.
Her decline was so astonishingly fast and steep,
that by Wednesday she was mercifully put to sleep.
Tomorrow we'll bury her by the pond that's so pretty,
and over her it will just say "Snickers, the perfect kitty".

My condolences on the tragic loss of your kitty.

Alas, poor Snickers.

How is sister kitty doing?

Sadie is looking for someone to play with.

Man. It's a sting that'll take a while to heal, I guess, Don.

I'm sorry about the loss.

Words are pretty cheap, though. I know.

So sorry to hear about your kitty.

I am so sorry, Don. My heart breaks to lose one of our fuzzy felines. I've found it a bit consoling to be able to bury them nearby and pause briefly on my walks to say hello to my memories of them.

Thanks, everybody, for your kindness. We buried Snickers just a little bit ago; the biopsy is pending, but it was probably a lymphoma, the bane of cats. She's had her leukemia shot, and was titer negative, but still had lymphoma.

I occasionally stop by to get inspiration for our Minnesota gardens for next year (always "for next year").

I cried when I read your tender poem about Snickers.

Iowa gardens may never carry the same meaning for me again...

Blessings,
Liz, The Good Raised Up

Thanks, Liz.
