Scarlet is a beautiful flower, but the plant has not been a good doer for me; I think it doesn't like our hot, dry summers, but it might be ducky in New York. It's rated almost as hardy as Nova, but I'd give the edge to Nova for overall hardiness (plus it's so cheap at Kmart, you wouldn't feel bad if it croaked... I got mine for $12.50 on closeout). The Finnish rhodys do great here for winter hardiness, but also suffer a little in our heat. I've never seen anybody do a study on lepidotes that tolerate cold winters and hot summers.
