Advice To New Gardeners...

If I could give one piece of advice to new gardeners (other than first move to Oregon), it would be to make your garden pathways wide. The old rule is that you should make your paths wide enough for two people to stroll comfortably side by side. Well, I knew this when I started my present garden, but the rule should include the additional statement that you can't then proceed to plant six shrubs and some twining honeysuckle right next to the path, and expect it to remain open.

Nice blog. I will keep reading. Please take the time to visit my blog about Orchid Care

What a contrast! Having the beautiful photos of your honeysuckle and weigela on my computer screen right next to the window where I'm looking outdoors at the beautiful, snow-laden trees, etc.! :-)

What a great shot with the harmonic colors of the weigelia and the lonicera (honeysuckle?). My garden is not great enough to have a path for two persons. But normally, it' s a very good idea.
Have a nice weekend Wurzerl

There IS a path there if you look close. The lonicera smells really good when you edge by it.

HA!!!

:)

Maybe that's a better design for your garden visitors, Don? If they can stroll side-by-side they'll just talk to each other... if they have to thread their way through it, proper attention will be paid to the garden ;-]

(echoing Annie's thoughts) But a narrow path makes for more intimate contact with the plants eh? Difficult to get garden carts, tools and supplies through though.

Hey, at least you can see yours :) I have a garden in London which has a path down either side - well I think it does. It's certainly used to have and I presume the left hand path is still there under the weigela and the hydrangeas somewhere. Who cares - I walk down the other side.

Nickie... see where you've got plenty of snow.
Annie... It also keeps them on their toes avoiding getting their hat taken off by low limbs.
Ki... that's the rub; I can still get my wheelbarrow through, so I'm o.k.
Sue...Ah, the abandoned path.
