In Praise Of Modest Lives

In this age of Britneys and Brads, a time when everybody who doesn't already think they are a celebrity, wants to be one... I have a soft spot for both people and critters who live modest, unassuming lives in the little nooks and quiet spots in the world.
The water from our eavetroughs empties out in an area of rough grass, making a miniature waterhole the size of my hand which has become the complete little world for a leopard frog; easily totally overlooked when walking right by, and of no importance I'm sure, to the moguls and movers and movie star wannabes... but a lot could be learned by sitting on a rock in the sun on a beautiful fall afternoon, and quietly watching a single frog living its life by a small wet spot in the grass... and a lot of what would be learned would be about yourself.

Always enjoy how you look at things--rare among garden blogs I think. Thanks. Keep it up.

And you have to be willing to take the time...

I agree, Don -- I've been amazed at what I've learned about myself from the smallest natural details. Love this photograph and the thoughts that accompany it.

Yep, I can't imagine any better place than sitting on a rock on a beautiful fall afternoon watching nature ... :)

Benjamin, Shady, Genie, and Olivia... thanks all for your contributions; they are all appreciated. The frog had an interesting evening after I took its picture. We had two storms go through, with tornado sirens and two inches of rain, but the frog is still there.
