A Fritillary Of Substance
I decided to break up and move one of the clumps of crown imperials, and what a pleasure it was to gently dig up these skunky, mammoth bulbs, each as large as my fist. The original single, small bulb had multiplied into six of these. It will be a delightfully musky spring next year.

How bad do you find the smell of the flowers? I hesitate to try them because I don't want to deal with the smell close to the house. And everywhere at my place is close to the house...
Janet... I rather like the smell. You only smell it on still, warm days, and even then, it's subtle, so no problem. Maybe I wouldn't cut a few stalks and put them in a vase at my soiree, though.
