Permanent Mistakes

I've been trying out different materials to cover some of my winding garden paths, as the shadier paths can get quite muddy when it rains (not a problem in this drought year, but I'm planning ahead). I found some bags of asphalt, and thought that would be interesting, so laid it down and tamped it firm, and now I HATE IT! It looks like a mini-parking lot in the middle of my wooded garden. Oh well, it will break down in ten or fifteen years, probably.

Comments:
yeow! that can't be good.
I picked up some slate from a old fallen barn bulit in 1860. no charge except my labor (lucky). I had big plans to do some etching work on the pieces.
" Yeah in another life maybe!" ... so I did stash some for that unreachable dream and broke the rest into smaller pieces and layed them on my pathway. That was six years ago, and besides a little agressive woodruff and pacasandra, it has been unmoveable by all elements!!!

~P.S. I sure have enjoyed your garden blog. thanks for letting me voyer!

I've got half a dozen bags of bright white, quartz rocks, which I bought on closeout sale, and I've fortunately NOT used them... maybe they'd go nice with the asphalt?
